Misty Acres is a former sugar cane plantation located in the Louisiana Bayou that is the location of the events in The Colonel's Bequest.
History[]
At one time a successful and expansive plantation, it was owned by Francois Pierre Crouton's family since the 1820's. Two slaves working in the plantation gave birth to Celie. It is implied that the Crouton family was wiped out during the American Civil War when the plantation was destroyed. It is not known who owned the plantation between the death or Sarah Marie Crouton and its purchase by Colonel Henri Dijon after his Spanish-American War service.
Misty Acres seems to have been heavily consumed by the bayou at the time of the Colonel's Bequest, particularly at the eastern and western ends of it.
