The Leyendecker Museum at night.
The Leyendecker Museum is a privately-funded institution dedicated to the collection and preservation for historical artifacts such as paintings, suit of armors, exotic animal specimens, fossils, and dinosaur bones.
In 1926, it hosted Dr. Pippin Carter's discoveries from the Temple of Amon Ra, including the much-hyped Dagger of Amon Ra. When the Dagger was stolen, Laura Bow would be assigned by her editor to visit the Leyendecker Museum and find out more information related to the dagger and its disappearance.
Description[]
The Museum was built at the beginning of 1897 to house the personal Renaissance art collection of Ignatz Leyendecker, who financed the construction. The building was designed by Arvin Slatherlord Loudermilk III, an eccentric architectural outcast who was also one of Mr. Leyendecker’s personal friends.
In 1910, and again in 1915, the original building was expanded to accommodate larger exhibits, based on Mr. Loudermilk’s conceptual sketches. In 1918, two specialized laboratories were added to the basement, as well as additional office space. The Gift Shoppe was added in 1923. Since the opening in the Fall of 1897, more than 20 million people have passed through the Museum’s door of the Leyendecker.
