The second refers to an in-game item in The Dagger of Amon Ra.

Laura's notebook is a mostly blank notebook designed for players to write down any interesting information they find about the characters, events, and setting of The Colonel's Bequest.
In-game item[]
Laura's notebook is an item given to Laura Bow at the start of The Dagger of Amon Ra by Crodfoller T. Rhubarb, who was previously assigned by his editor at the New York Daily News Tribune to cover the story of the theft of the Dagger from the Leyendecker Museum. Laura will use this to gather information and list topics to ask people about.
At the start, only a few topics are available. As Laura proceeds through the investigation, more characters and items and miscellaneous topics will be added to the notebook.
